Winter: The best time to visit Udaipur is from October to March (winter). It is the high season for tourism in the region. Since the topography of Udaipur is a blend of desert, lakes, and mountains, the winter is a pleasant mild affair with balmy sunshine and clear blue skies. During the daytime, when the sun shines, you don’t need many layers of clothes. Temperatures drop during night time, and you might need a light extra layer of clothing.
It is also a time of festivals like Holi (Feb/March), Deewali (Oct/Nov), Bird Festival (Jan) and the famous Shilpgram Festival (December) which is a celebration of the arts, crafts, and folk culture of Mewar. In March or April, the Mewar Festival is organized by the state to showcase the region’s culture.
Summer: April and May is the high summer season and is characterized by intense heat waves. Mercury reaches 40 °C during this time of the year. Since Udaipur is a semi-arid terrain surrounded by the Thar Desert, expect the summer to be challenging and difficult outdoors. Naturally, this is the off or low season for travel.
Monsoon: The driest city receives late monsoon from September and lasts only until October. It gets mild showers and the humidity is said to rise. It can bring sparse rain in July and August at times but it is as good as no rain. However, the temperature is not said to be too high and makes the heat bearable.
