Winter: October to February is the best time to visit Kerala as it is the peak tourist season. The weather during this time of the year is clear with little rain and ideal temperature for outdoors. The beaches are also calm during these months, and the backwaters are ideal for a secluded getaway experience.
Depending upon which month you visit, you’ll also come across many festivals during this season. This includes Thiruvathira (held on a full moon night in January), Pongal (celebrated in January), Theyyam (costume dance festival/ dates vary from October to January), Attukal Pongala (celebrated in Atuukal Temple in Thiruvananthapuram).
Summer: The summer months (March to May) are not the ideal time to visit Kerala due to the intense heat and humidity. But if you are on a tight budget, it is worth braving the weather to enjoy year-high discounts on hotels and resorts. It is a good time for New Year festivities.
The Malayalam New Year festival Vishu is celebrated in the summer (April). Another grand festival this month featuring bedecked elephants and large parades and carnivals is the Thrissur Pooram, which is celebrated at the Vaddakunnathan Temple in Thrissur district.
Monsoon: (June- September) brings with it lots of rains and relief from the heat of the previous months. However, the beaches and backwaters see turbulent weather with massive rainfall during these months. You can, however, enjoy hill stations holidays in the Western Ghats where the weather is perfect. Best hill stations in the region are Munnar, Thekaddy, and Wayanad.
It is also a time of many harvest festivals with the biggest being the 10-day-long Onam Festival (celebrated in Aug/September) that celebrates the arrival of King Mahabali.
