Best Time to Visit Jodhpur

Weather, Temperature & Seasons

Winter: The best time to visit Jodhpur is during the winter—October to March. This weather during this time of the year is mostly dry, sunny, and clear. This is why this is the peak tourist season in Jodhpur. Temperatures are mild and hover in the 20s°C during the day time, so you do not need heavy sweaters or woolen layers. At night, when there is a drop in temperature, you will need an extra layer—but not a very heavy one.

In short, the perfect weather for tourism!

It is also a time of festivals in Jodhpur. The Nagaur Fair (the second largest livestock fair in India after Pushkar) is held in Jan/Feb. Women of the region celebrate the Gangaur Festival right after Holi (March) to pray for a perfect match and the long life of their partners. Nav Sati, another women-oriented festival is also celebrated in March.

Temperatures Range

Winter – cool and dry
October - February
10-34 °C (50-93 °F)
Monsoon – wet and humid
June - September
24-38 °C (75-100°F)
Summer – intense, hot
April-May
24-41 °C (75-106 °F)

Summer: April and May are the peak summer months when temperature goes past 40°C (over 100°F). This is obviously not ideal for sightseeing and tenting experiences in the desert. This time of the year is, therefore, the low or off season.

Monsoon: (June- September) provides relief with rains and lowers the average temperatures across the region. However, there is still significant humidity and heat. This time of the year is, therefore, the shoulder season for tourism in Jodhpur. On the upside, hotels and resorts offer hefty discounts, and there are thinner crowds at top attractions.

You can also catch some traditional festivals like Veerpuri Fair (held in July/August) at Mandore Gardens, or the Nag Panchami Fair (Aug/September) to honor the Serpent god Nag with snake charmers from all across the state putting a show with their giant snakes.

The Marwar Festival, a celebration of the region’s folk culture, is held in September/October. Events take place at Mehrangarh Fort, Mandore Fort, and Umaid Bhawan Palace.
