Delhi is the proud capital of India. It is a city where ancient history meets contemporary Indian consciousness.
A tale of Seven Cities Delhi has been established, ransacked and re-established seven times, the latest of the establishments was done in the British Era when Sir Edwin Lutyens designed NEW DELHI .
Ideally located in the heart of northern India this grand old city has seen the ebb and flow of time. It has seen the rise and fall of ancient, medieval, and modern empires, and indeed the rise and independence of India as an independent republic.
There are two faces of current city of Delhi. The Old Delhi (Purani Dilli) of myth, legend and historical legacy. This is the Delhi of the Red Fort (the fort residence of the Mughal Emperor of India), the medieval Chandni Chowk market, and the Jama Masjid (still one of the largest mosques in the Islamic world).
It is the old Delhi of the Delhi Sultanates, and of the Lodhi Gardens, the Qutb Minar (1000-year-old brick tower), and Emperor Humayun’s Tomb.
Then, there is New Delhi, the face of modern India, across the Yamuna River. The place that houses the Rashtrapati Bhavan (President’s House), the Parliament, the India Gate monument, the National Museum, Connaught Place (business district), and the Gandhi Smriti Museum.
This “Lutyens” part of Delhi bears the influence of its British Raj architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. With modern pluralistic worship places like the Lotus and Akshardham temples, this part of the capital is a metaphor for contemporary India.
At Resplendent Travel, we offer well-rounded tours of the capital that comprise a wide range of attractions and experiences that Delhi has to offer.
